The various forms of football are among the most popular sports to play and watch. Football (as well as rugby and soccer) are believed to have descended from the ancient Greek game of harpaston. Harpaston is mentioned frequently in classical literature, where it is often referred to as a “very rough and brutal game“. Association football and soccer, is played in almost in every country by men and women. Football consists of two teams of usually between 11 and 18 players, and clearly defined and specified to play the game. Scoring goals or points, by moving the ball to an opposing team's end of the field and either into a goal area, or over a line. A football referee is in charge of enforcing the rules of a football game. They also supervise the other officials in their interpretation of the rules and have the power to overrule any of their calls with which the referee disagrees. Football is played in accordance with a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game.
