The volcanic Cape Verde Island is located 570 kilometer in the Atlantic, off the Africa's West coast. The capital city of this Island is Praia. This island lies between 14o and 18o N latitudes and 22o and 26o w longitudes. Until 1975, Cape Verde Islands were a Portuguese colony. Due to lack of fresh water and poor soil, this island needs to import 90 per cent of the food for its people. The languages spoken in these islands are Portuguese and Creole.
